Transwomen educate schoolchildren in Coimbatore on saving money

A group of transwomen from Coimbatore on Monday conducted a session on the importance of saving money for the students of Government High School at Kavundampalayam here.

S. Anushya, founder of the NGO Trans Mom Foundation, said that she and other transwomen distributed around 450 piggy banks among students as part of the session. “We have put coins inside these piggy banks before giving it to the children to mark the beginning of their savings,” she said.

They addressed students from Classes VI to VIII on the importance of saving money. “Through this initiative, we are trying to reform the way transgenders are seen in the society,” Ms. Anushya said.

The NGO’s co-founder K. Karthik said that they suggested the students to save a little amount of money every day during the upcoming summer holidays. “By the end of the holidays, they could save enough money to purchase notebooks or shoes, which can reduce the financial burden of their families,” he said.
